چکیده
New approach to cartographic modeling based on integration of scientiic visualization and computer cartography is presented. This approach moves cartography from 2D static maps to cartographic modeling of landscape as a complex dynamic system in 3D space and time. visualization INTRODUCTION As the result of a revolution in technologies for collection of information about the Earth, large volumes of geospatial data are now available in digital form 7]. Increasing volume of these data is being measured in three dimensional (3D) space and time for studies of spatial and temporal relationships of landscape phenomena. Every component of natural landscape is 3D varying more or less through time and realistic landscape modeling requires methods and tools working in 3 dimensions and time. 3D GIS can provide an appropriate environment for study of objects and processes in real landscape. Reeecting needs of the future 3D GIS systems, new approach to cartographic modeling is emerging from the integration of computer cartography and scientiic visualization 3]. This approach is based on viewing the data in 3D space and modeling the dynamics of geospatial processes using animation, as pioneered by Tobler 12]. Another important diierence is the high level of interaction with data. Cartographic modeling is approached as a creative process, requiring a cartographer to browse through data, looking at various attributes and spatial layers before deciding how to best represent the phenomena being studied. Radical changes in communication of information stimulate the development of multidimensional dynamic cartography (MDC). More information is now being distributed

A Computational Framework for Influenza Antigenic Cartography
Influenza viruses have been responsible for large losses of lives around the world and continue to present a great public health challenge. Antigenic characterization based on hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay is one of the routine procedures for influenza vaccine strain selection. However, HI assay is only a crude experiment reflecting the antigenic correlations among testing antigens (vi...
متن کاملSoftware Cartography: thematic software visualization with consistent layout
Software visualizations can provide a concise overview of a complex software system. Unfortunately, as software has no physical shape, there is no ‘natural’ mapping of software to a two-dimensional space. As a consequence most visualizations tend to use a layout in which position and distance have no meaning, and consequently layout typically diverges from one visualization to another. We propo...
متن کاملA new approach to On-line Mapping
Internet mapping and the widespread availability of mapping software are revolutionizing the world of cartography: anyone can now produce maps of many areas of the world. However, these tools typically only allow one to produce pictures, and the process undertaken to achieve these pictures is lost. We present a new approach to cartography in which maps are understood to be the visual representa...
متن کاملThe World in Your Pocket – towards a Mobile Cartography
The dawn of new technologies on the horizon, such as telecommunication, mobile internet, and handheld computing devices, offers new chances to the discipline of cartography. However, existing approaches to mobile cartography mostly have a commercial background and are rather technology centred. This quite narrow view ignores many relevant problems and does not fully profit from the new possibil...

The cartography of dynamic objects also requires to abstract the rules that constrain how objects change and relate to each other over time. Enterprise cartography deals with the dynamic design and production of architectural views that depict the components of an organisation and their dependencies. It shares its cons...
